World Youth Day Rio 2013 - WYD 2013 in Rio de Janeiro ( Brazil)

The Rio de Janeiro is the Brazilian city chosen to host the next World Youth Day in 2013. The event was conceived by Pope John Paul II, brings together youths from different countries and cultures to celebrate the message of love, peace and unity preached by Jesus Christ.

São Paulo will receive the next day on September 18, the cross of World Youth Day and the icon of Our Lady. The festival will be promoted by the Church in the Field of Mars, in the north of the city and aims to gather 80 thousand Catholics. The cross and the image will go 275 dioceses in Brazil.

* Benedict XVI announced the Rio to host the 27th World Youth Day

The Archbishop of Sao Paulo, Dom Odilo Scherer, spoke about the importance of the event. The cross of the journey and the image of Our Lady will travel to Brazil for almost a year, until the arrival of Pope Benedict the 16th, in July 2013 to attend the World Youth Day, in Rio de Janeiro.

"Let this day be able to convey a positive message to young people, a light to their lives, help young people understand that there are things that makes life worth living. We hope this to happen and we are mobilizing to pass this message for young people, "said Bishop Odilo.
